Five short. Have to get working on that. 'Cept D.C. isn't (and shouldn't be) a "state."

I've only been to maybe 10 states, but I HAVE been to New Mexico.
Oddly, today I was talking about how we could give New Mexico back to the Mexicans because there's nothing there, but then I remembered Philmont Scout Camp in Cimmaron. I have a lot of good memories of my two weeks hiking through the wilderness and avoiding bears.
I am very much a east of the Mississippi guy. Have been to twenty-eight states...only three east of Old Man River.
Thanks for introducing me to this toy.
My pleasure, Jim.
I got to go to a number of these states professionally (Alaska, Hawaii, Washington, and California). Quite a few came from a high school band trip in 1980. I would've strictly been a mid-Atlantic/Midwest guy but for my profession and high school band.
Does one have to "visit" a state for it to count? Or does merely driving through it count?
For example, I one too a vacation to Memphis, and drove across the river into Arkansas, just to say that I had been there, but saw nothing other than a gas staion and McDonald's at the exit ramp where I turned around. On a trip from Boston to Maine, I drove through New Hampshire on my way to Maine, but only got out of the car to get gas. The list goes on.
Do these count?
Well, I counted states I've been to, Marty. Arizona and Minnesota qualified on that basis. I assume it's a pretty low standard.
