BREAKING NEWS: Webb Raises Son As Racist

Well, well, well.

The Shad Plank and Wonkette provide an interesting insight into Jim Webb's son, with reference to his MySpace weblog.

Since the Webb campaign will doubtless promptly pull down the offending references, and to insure maximum exposure, I reproduce the post here in its entirety:

Foolishness: An equal opportunity offender

Mere days after Sen. George Allen's MacacaGate gaffe comes a bit of nearly-as-embarassing news from the other side: James Webb Jr. -- son of the Democratic Senate candidate -- has a public MySpace Page, and it's not exactly a page from the typical scrub-and-polish smiles we see at campaign stops.

Junior, a member of the 2nd Marine Division, writes: "As the official purchaser of porn in the ‘support this friggin Marine program’. You are not only the provider of pornagraphic paraphenalia, to this individual friggin Marine, but a whole Platoon of friggin Marines, waiting to be supported by someone like you, the General Public. But please, no midget or goat porn."

And, just to keep the week's theme constant, Webb provides some dubiously racist language: "Right above the reel it read “made in china.” ‘Confucious say, cheaply made rod make expensive catch.’ Zebco is made in china now?! Holy crap! This wholesome everyday American product, is now relegated to manufacture by a bunch of people in China, who will probably NEVER even SEE a lake. Let alone fish one."

We'll give the Webb campaign about a half-hour to pull this, so check it out now.

Wonder how Webb's paid nutroots will spin this?

UPDATE: Well, some of my commenters, and a post or two around Web (one "b") have taken me to task for raising this issue. 'Fact is, I don't believe Webb is a racist, or that his son is, either. However, I have begun to wonder about the real purpose of this contrived story on George Allen. I have concluded that it must be because Webb fears stories coming out late in the campaign about his use of common disparaging terms about Southeast Asians during his service in Viet Nam. Anybody who's seen "Platoon" or "Apocalypse Now" could repeat them; I won't here.

Who said Webb doesn't believe in "pre-emption"?

I'm not sure how much a man should be held responsible for something his son does, especially after he's grown up and out the door.

If they're smart, they'll just ignore it. So long as Webb wasn't SENDING porn to his son, I don't see the story here. Maybe I'm missing something.

Actually, since Webb is running as a democrat, scratch that -- sending porn wouldn't hurt him a bit.

To the reading impaired (that means you, webbies): I am not implying, suggesting, or insinuating Webb sends porn to his son.

Are you now attacking those who are serving in Iraq??? Disgusting!

James Young said...

As opposed to what, James? Attacking those who have DIED in Iraq, like one of Webb's campaign workers?

Besides, I'm attacking Webb, not his son.

Or his mother.

Well, SOMEBODY ought to slap his mother.

This makes zero sense.

What are you basing "his use of common disparaging terms" on? Do you have any evidence of this, or is it just meant to slur Webb in an attempt to mitigate Allen's problem? Wishful thinking, perhaps?

Furthermore, "pre-emption"? So, your theory is that Webb had Allen put on his "Welcome to America" act in front of a camera he knew was being run by a volunteer for Webb so Webb could use it against Allen to "pre-empt" any slurs that Webb may later be accused of having once used (allegedly).

Wow, Webb is good! And George Allen is remarkably accomodating.

That or your argument has no logical base. (Probably option #2.)

Oh, and BTW, who cares what his kid said in his MySpace blog? I say, "Good Luck in Iraq, Dude."

Sorry, nice try but this doesn't work. The kid is a Marine and yes they use raunchy humor. Always have and always will.

A lot of college kids post far worse on My Space and websites like it. One of them was a young college student who recently got a good job with the Republicans. I don't remember all the details but I remember quite a few Republicans calling Raising Kaine unfair for posting some pictures of her. They even threatened a lawsuit, even though it was in the public domain and fair game. Just like the words of Jim Webb, Jr.

But it was just as petty to publish young kids being silly. Especially one headed for dangerous duty in Iraq who was blowing off steam.

Equating him with a seasoned, supposedly mature and respected former Governor and Senator is ridiculous. Allen made nasty, mean spirited and racist remarks designed to humilitiate somebody half his age.

As for Webb, Sr.'s possible racism or anti-Asian sentiments, please tell that to his pregnant wife Hong, who happens to be Vietnamese.

I think your theory of equivelency just doesn't cut it here. You'd do better and be more credibly to just ask Allen to apologize and admit it was wrong.

And by the way, Wonkette is a vulgar idiot. Why would anybody read her much less quote her?
