The NEA Agenda

Tip of the hat to MR JMS at Too Conservative. A good discussion of the NEA agenda, courtesy of Senator Cuccinelli. Required reading for those so-called "moderates" who confuse the teachers' union with an organization interested in educating the children.

Reminds me why, every time I see one of those bumper stickers that says "We teach the children," I thank God I can afford to send mine to private school.

Of course, it should also cause one to question why: (1) some Republicans try to cozy up to this far-Left organization; and (2) some Republicans won't support school choice.

They just don't get it.

As a Democrat who supports school choice, the NEA tires me sometimes...but I wouldn't really overestimate their power. As you surely know (as a right to work lawyer), they aren't really a union...just an association. They don't have as much clout as people think.

As a Democrat, it amazes me that you could underestimate its power. And I hope your tongue was planted firmly in cheek when you stated that "As you surely know (as a right to work lawyer), they aren't really a union...just an association." Perhaps you are speaking only to Virginia, where they can't be a union, because the Commonwealth bars public employee monopoly bargaining. However, rest assured that elsewhere, the NEA is most certainly a union. I've collected enough attorneys fees from its affiliates for civil rights violations to be able to attest to that.
